My son Alex… He never ceases to surprise me. Today we arrived at a 5K event in Washington DC. Alex would walk or even ride his bike to help me train for past races, but has never taken to running himself.
We showed up at today’s race at about 7:20 and as the time was near for the race to begin 8:00, I suggested a job for him to do to help the team with a task and give him something to do while I ran, he said, “Mom, I’m running this one.” I was so surprised.
He started running next to me and then took off with little effort – soon he was well ahead of me.
He beat me. He hung back to stay close – as he tends to do – always watching out for me, but then as we neared the finish, he went on ahead. He obviously could run faster too.
I was so proud of him. We had to hurry off to catch our plane back to Missouri.
Because Alex hung back to stay near me (always watching out), he didn’t finish in time to receive a finishers medal, I am still going to get him a special one to remember his first race.
Go Alex!
Good Job Alex! Congratulations!
Good for Alex! Love that he always looking out for mis momma. I never understand how people can do things like that with such little effort. If he sticks with it, he has some serious potential!
Thanks Sarah! I was so surprised when Alex said he wanted to run in the race. He is always full of surprises. I think he plans to continue. He won’t be running with me though – much faster. Have a great day.
